Big news for our neck of the woods this week. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, just a hop skip and a jump away from Snoloha's Intergalactic Headquarters won the title of "Good Morning America's" Most Beautiful Place in America. I know there are plenty of you out there who are familiar with this area, and thus it makes perfect sense why I call it home. But I know there are also plenty more who have

Every once in a while I like to go back to older blog posts to see what was on my mind. This is from August of 2008, and I'm glad I found it: Marci Alboher, of the New York Times, has an interesting read/interview titled, "Why Leisure Matters in a Busy World" How do you define Leisure? Leisure has many different definitions - some involving time, some relating to an activity being done, some relating

The other day I wondered if you'd miss Snoloha if it were gone. I had some nice feedback. And it seems that there are indeed folks out there who would miss Snoloha if it were gone. I received a particularly nice note from a long-time close friend (and customer) and really enjoyed this perspective (note: the reference to a men's prison is his place of employment...not his residence): "When life gets difficult, we all need

This has made it's rounds on the web and Facebook (I guess Facebook would be considered 'the web', but it seems like it's own monster these days). But for all of you Snoloha customers and fans out there who have never been to Traverse City, Michigan, and who may wonder why I call this place home...I thought I'd share this Pure Michigan commercial with you. It's not what you envision, when you envision Michigan...I'd be

I don't mean to drone on about sailing and Snoloha...it just happens to be that time of year and I've spent more time on a boat than the beach so far this summer. But again, it's the 'escapism' element - the "Living on Snoloha Time" feeling - whether that comes from a boat, beach, ski hill or backyard bbq, that I do mean to drone on about. I recently had one of those Living on

Today's one of those days when I'm having a hard time 'blogging'...so I decided to look back at 'this date in Snoloha history' and see what I was talking about back in 2007, Snoloha's first year in bidness. While doing this, I was reminded of an idea that I've been thinking about trying out...so I thought why not try it out on Rob. As I was looking at blog posts from this same week in

I'm finally combining my love of Jimmy Buffett music with Snoloha and a good cause. Stop by the Holiday Inn on West Grand Traverse Bay this Saturday June 25th, 2011 from 3:00 - 10:00 for the Traverse City Parrothead Club's "Wastin' Away on Grand Traverse Bay" Beach Bash. Not only will there be Snoloha gear to buy (along with some Unsalted Sailing gear), there will be good music, cold drinks, food specials, a silent auction

Is that a great song title, or what?! I don't know about you, but it instantly takes me to a different place. You can't help but smile and escape back to your youth...and as a new dad, it makes hangin' with my little baby girl even that much more fun & special. I gotta thank Jim Hoehn for this. I've been a fan of Jim's for a few years now. Jim wrote the great Boat

I managed to be L.O.S.T. this weekend, and it was much needed. 2011 had been...uh, well, memorable. The roller-coaster of life and growing a small business has been a bit wild...lots of ups and downs. Nothing life threatening or anything like that...just life stuff that we all deal with now and then...all hitting about the same time. So practicing what I preach, and "Living on Snoloha Time" for some much needed escapism, is just what

"Mistakes, I've made a few...but then again too few (uh, no, there's plenty) to mention." I'm not sure if it's an entrepreneurial thing, but making quick decisions and acting without over-thinking seem to be something that I find myself doing white often. Most of the time, everything works out, but there are times when I probably should have slowed down and thought things through a bit more. The 'We Can Build a SnoMon' promo is

When you think of Living on Snoloha Time this time of year, you probably think of beaches, margaritas, Jimmy Buffett music and flip-flops. Being at the helm of a sailboat, by yourself at 2:30 in the morning, enveloped by fog, bundled up in foul weather gear as the rain continues to fall, along with the temperature, listening to the humming of the engine while motor sailing solely by the GPS is not what one would

It's been a very hectic few weeks around the Snoloha house...unexpected home repairs / projects and retail fulfillment. I'm in serious need of some Snoloha escapism...and in a few hours I'll be shutting it all off in order to be Living on Snoloha Time for the weekend. We will be Lake Michigan Island Hopping 'somewhere between the islands and the arctic' (literally, as our destination lies at 45° 40' 0" N), departing out of Northport
