In case you haven't realized this by now...this blog is pretty much my way to vent and share my life as a brand owner, entrepreneur, dad and husband trying to 'figure it all out', while enjoying another trip around the sun. Snoloha has evolved since it's inception.  I've had doors opened up as a result of this brand, and some that have been slammed in my face.  It's been humbling, exciting, stressful as hell, tiring,

Being a 'solopreneur' is sometimes the greatest feeling (I love the ability to make decisions on the fly and do things the way I envision doing them)...but sometimes it can feel like your working in a silo.  I've been very candid about my thoughts on networking and being a horrible business owner.  So for me, it's a different connection that's important to make, and thankfully I get a dose when needed. Just the other night,

This Unsalted Sailing Magazine is requiring quite a bit of 'office time'.  I'm still not sure if this is a brilliant idea that we've come up with, or if it will be a giant time suck with little results.  But hey!  We won't know until we try, right? As a result of what's been a very busy spring, I've really struggled with new blog topics.  Call it writer's block, I guess.  It happens.  What I

Doesn't everyone have dreams of strumming a guitar and playing to a legion of fans across the globe?  Or hitting the game winning shot in game 7?  Or the bases loaded walk off home run? We all grow up with those dreams, don't we?  And eventually reality sets it and you realize that you just don't quite have what it takes.  Then what?  I guess most of the time we settle.  We settle for some

Life is hectic.  That's why we all need escapism.  That's why we need Snoloha. On a chilly Wednesday afternoon as another busy day was 'trying' to wind down we managed to escape out of the marina and spend a little time flying sail on the Catalina 309 "Adele Lina" getting her ready for a charter this coming weekend. It really was work related.  Really, it was. Leaving land behind, raising (in this case unfurling) sails,

It's hard to turn on the TV these days...unless there's a good game on, or a Seinfeld episode. Everything seems to be a reality based contest show.  And they are unwatchable. Mostly, I think I just don't have any patience or sympathy for many of these 'contestants' looking to make it big overnight.  The 16 year old high school student whose lifelong dream is to be a singer.  Lifelong dream?  You're 16!  First you need

It's true.  I'm a horrible business owner. Why? I don't network (online social media excluded, which is a different conversation) and I rarely take advice. I'd like to be better at both, but I'm not sure if I have any interest.  And that's a horrible attitude, I know it is.  My doctor once said to me that I have a tremendous sense of self-realization...seriously, she said that. I have no interest in business after hours

It's the first day of Spring, and it continues to snow here in northern Michigan. I think it's great!  I know there are plenty of folks who want it to end, but I figure that since it's still March it might as well be snowing.  This means there's still time for a few more  snowboard trips to Boyne Mountain. This extended snowfall is great for the ski hills, xc trails, snowshoe trails...and when it's system

Living on Snoloha Time 10 Years Ago at Bolongo Bay. "It was during this very moment under the star encrusted Caribbean sky that I felt a sensation of happiness for the first time in a very long time.  Then I said aloud, to no one in particular except maybe a nosey iguana, "everything's gonna be alright".  And I believed it.  At that very moment with Corona's circulating through my body and the salt air sticking

There's more to Boyne Mountain than snowboarding! It's true.  I finally found out for myself.  After twenty years of going to 'the Mountain' snowboarding, I spent the entire weekend there without my board. My wife and I dropped the little one off and 'Grammy and Pappa's' house and headed to Boyne Mountain for a little R&R.  We snowshoed, ate, hot-tubbed, went on a horse drawn carriage ride, drank, sat in the sun, watched the ducks,

There's nothing like a little escapism and "Living on Snoloha Time" to forget about the realities of everyday life once in a while.  This has been an exceptionally enjoyable week because 4 1/2 of the 7 days will be spent at Boyne Mountain resort -- snowboarding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hot tubbing, eating, drinking and relaxing.  Sure, it would be great to 'live the lifestyle' like this more consistently...but who would do all the hard work
