One of my favorite things to do every now and then is to go back and read the feedback and answers that I received when I asked the question: “What does Snoloha mean to you?”

Those answers, in addition to all the great photos that you send in, are an extremely important component to the continued growth of the Snoloha brand. It adds a degree of inspiration that I cannot find on my own. I can preach all day long about what Snoloha means to me and what my vision is for the brand and how I live the lifestyle and on and on and on…but when I see and hear how YOU connect with it and live it, it keeps me motivated even more so than I already am.

For those of you who have not yet sent in your answer (to the question that is bothering me so)…fell free to do so, there might just be something in it for you.

So…what does Snoloha mean to you? Here’s the contact link.

It’s hard to pick a favorite…but one that sticks out and hits the Snoloha concept right on the head went like this:

“Snoloha: It’s a state of mind. It’s knowing that when life gets hectic you can relax with a cocktail on the beach or the ski slope. It’s knowing that we work all week for the weekend. It’s working your tail off so you can get away from it all. It doesn’t matter if that’s on the beaches of St. Thomas, the slopes of Whistler, or the above ground pool in your neighbor’s backyard.”

And yes, you will now have more Snoloha gear to take photos of as you are the Snapshots & Scenery winner for August!

Named by the French voyageurs in the 1600’s, Grand Marais means the Great Pond, used as a Harbor of Refuge. Situated on the shore of Lake Superior, Grand Marais serves as the eastern entrance to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

If you want a chance to win free Snoloha gear of your own and to be the envy of your social circle…and quite possibly jump start your online modeling career, just email them to me, or post ‘em to Facebook.

This past month has been pretty crazy…not only has there been lots happening in the world of Snoloha, but the addition of a baby to our household has really made things a bit more interesting (in a good way).

And since I cannot for the life of me come up with a blog post today, I’m taking the easy route out…posting some Jimmy Buffett lyrics.

I guess this would be a good time to link to the Snoloha Baby onsies…tell ya what, buy a onsie and get FREE shipping. Easy at that! Actually, you have to use the code “snobaby” as the Discount Code during checkout…but it’s still pretty easy.

“Delaney Talks to Statues”
I’ve changed “Delaney” to “Savannah”…this is one of her favorites that she like me to sing to her (awwww…isn’t that special).

“Savannah talks to statues
As she dances ’round the pool
She chases cats through roman ruins
And stomps on big toadstools
She speaks a language all her own
That I cannot discover
But she knows I love her so
When I tuck her ‘neath the covers

Father, daughter
Down by the water
Shells sink, dreams float
Life’s good on our boat

Savannah draws me pictures
She finger paints the sand
We chase the dogs and hop like frogs
Then I do my bad handstand
She’s growing up too fast for me
And asking lots of questions
Some I know the answers to
And some I’m looking for suggestions

Father, daughter
Born by the water
Surf’s up, sun’s down
Life in a beach town”

Again…use “snobaby” and receive FREE shipping when you buy a Snoloha Baby Onsie.

I was going through my “Misc Photos” file that stares at me daily on my desktop and happened (I like using that word) across these pics that I thought seemed fitting to post on a beautiful, sunny August day.

A Corona on a chairlift…with a Snoloha sticker of course.

And me and Capt Dave from Bay Breeze Yacht Charters sailing in December on the Snoloha Yacht (it’s only 23′ long, but saying ‘yacht’ makes me feel better)…and of course I’m sporting the Snoloha Sailor Beanie (notice the focus on my face…or maybe it was just frozen. And that hat that Dave is wearing…what’s that all about?)

Why these photos on a day like today? I think they do a perfect job at showcasing the “Snoloha concept”….enjoying and combining all the seasons that Mother Nature throws at us, “somewhere between the islands and the arctic.”

Okay, I showed you mine…now show me yours.

There are still some lingering Snoloha shirts that I’ve been staring at for way too long. I think they are beginning to mock me. I think maybe they are afraid to leave the comforts of their shelf, unsure of what kind of owner they will get. I assure each one as it’s packed into a cardboard box that change is good and that a good home awaits and that their daddy will always love them…okay, maybe the new baby in the house is effecting (affecting?) my brain.

What I’m trying to say is…It’s simple…all On Sale gear is 50% off. Remember, there is flat rate shipping for $5.00 and if you spend $50.00 or more, shipping is FREE.

Sizes are somewhat limited, but if you dig deep enough I’m sure you’ll find something you gotta have.

G’head…shopping at a discount is fun. Shopping while at work is even funner (uh, more fun). Shopping for Snoloha is, well, there are no words to describe it. Okay, ‘fun’ works.

P.S. If for some reason the 50% off prices are not reflected, shoot me a note because once on a while this darn shopping cart likes to try and play jokes with me…shopping carts are not meant to be funny, so I’m not sure why this one thinks it is.

Snoloha has been driven and defined primarily by myself and by lots of input from you…and what it (Snoloha) means to you.

The objective of the brand is escapism, enjoying all the seasons that Mother Nature throws at us, and combining the enjoyment into this melting pot of a lifestyle brand…thus creating a word (Snoloha), a logo (SnoFlake Palm Tree) and designs (Palm Tree Chair Lift, for example) that can’t really happen, but still make a ton of sense for those that appreciate the brand and what it stands for.

Yesterday I had one of my “Snoloha Moments”. And I realized that it’s been some time since I’ve shared one.

It was HOT and HUMID here in Traverse City, so I decided to cool off with some time on the water and quick stand up paddle board session. It was great…the Tall Ship Manitou was leaving her dock as I was passing under it, the NautiCat was out for an evening sail and the Grand Traverse Yacht Club’s Tuesday night Laser races were underway.

I paddle my way through the sailboat mooring field, along the shoreline to what I call “Hobie Cat Corner” and back to where I launched, across the street from the Maritime Heritage Alliance, where resting quietly are a handful of wooden sailboats.

That is when I came upon an older gentlemen preparing for an evening sail…aboard what I learned is the replica of an 1800’s Mackinac boat that was extremely popular in the northern Great Lakes (”like having a pickup truck in those days”, he informed me). It’s about 20 feet in length, has 2 masts and a jib sail…and is all wood. My mind immediately began to envision what it must have been like in those days navigating the open waters of Lake Michigan on such a small boat.

But then to my surprise he turned his attention to my paddle board and began a series of inquiries. He was just as interested in my paddle board as I was his old wooden boat. He seemed like an interesting old salt, the kind of guy you pass a bottle of rum with and just sit back and listen.

Eventually, I loaded up the Jeep and called it an evening.

I should mention also that while I was on the water, in the middle of summer, I could not help but think of the upcoming winter season and enjoying time on the snowboard instead.

THAT is Snoloha for me. It’s about the feeling I get. It’s about the enjoyment. It’s about the escapism from everyday life now and then. It’s about time on the water and the beach during the warmer months and then time on, and in, the snow in the the colder ones. It’s about being outside and simply enjoying life somewhere between the islands and the arctic.

For you, it may be different. And that’s okay. In fact…tell me what it is to you (there may be something in it for you!)
