Snoloha Trop Rock Interview

Monday, March 8th, 2010

My good buddy JimmyPirate from TropiCast Radio was kind enough to include me in his 50th episode. So if you’d like to listen to an interview with yours truly, here’s the link. And if you really could care less about what I have to say, the Trop Rock music is worth the listen.

The coolest part of the interview…I got to make a request, “Hollow Man” by The Boat Drunks.

The inaccurate part…for some reason I said that Oliver (my European Licensee) was from Germany and living in Italy. He’s from Germany and living in Spain, duh!

“I wanna take your boat as far as it goes, feel Jamaican sand between my toes
I wanna ride on the wind just as far as I can
I won’t be any trouble to haul- I can sleep anywhere at all
And I don’t eat very much for a hollow man”

A Little Trop Rock Snoloha Support

Friday, December 18th, 2009

I got a kick out this photo. That’s the back of Gumbo Ron’s vehicle, and those are Snoloha stickers in each corner.

Gumbo Ron has been playing Trop Rock music for years. While living in Belize ,on the island of Caye Caulker, he wrote many songs about his “Belizean” experiences… yeah, lot of “drinkin’ songs” but hey, we all love drinking songs, right? A CD, “What We Belize In”, was the result. His most recent CD, “Tequila Tonight, Tomorrow We Ride!”, is definitely for the Jimmy Buffett-Parrothead inclined. However it will also be enjoyed by anyone who likes easy-listening “folk rock”…only with a tropical theme.

So what happens when you Google “Tequila Tonight CD”? Here you go.

Thanks for the support Gumbo Ron.

The Snoloha / Homemade Wine partnership is taking shape. The fellas have been playing gigs throughout the south and sporting their Snoloha gear. Be sure to check out their website to learn more and I’ll be sure to keep you updated with the launch of their CD that they have been recording this summer as well.

Snoloha & Homemade Wine

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

No. Not the kind you drink…this is the kind you listen to.
homemade_wine_blog.jpg
Homemade Wine has been a long time in the making. It’s the culmination of two brother’s passion for the beach, it’s music, and all that the “beachlife” incorporates. Now, it is a 6-piece Trop Rock band currently in the studio recording an album and touring this summer.

Tod Sheley, one of the founding brothers of Homemade Wine, who contacted me originally, was a founding member of the band St. Somewhere and played percussion on their CD, “Postcard”. During his time with St. Somewhere he was privileged to record and play live with Greg “Fingers” Taylor of Jimmy Buffett fame. There’s even a photo of Tod on the Homemade Wine website next to Mr. Buffett himself.

After checking out their site and listening to some sample tracks I quickly realized these guys and their vibe are a great Snoloha fit. I’m excited to work with the boys from Homemade Wine. They’ll be sportin’ Snoloha gear on stage and we will be promoting both our brands / bands in the weeks and months to come.

One of the first gigs they are playing as Snoloha Trop Rockers is at Lulu’s at Homeport Marina in Gulf Shores, Alabama. This place is owned by Lucy “LuLu” Buffett, Jimmy Buffett’s sister.

Don’t worry, I’ll let you know when the CD is available. And I’ll post pics as they become available.

A Silly Man

Monday, March 30th, 2009

I can’t take it anymore. 24/7 news media is driving me crazy. The sky must really be falling. There seems to be nothing good to report on. And beating a dead horse seems to be the only approach left.

Times like these are difficult, yes. There are pundits, experts, doctors and counselors who will have all kinds of advice for how to deal with this financial and economic mess we’re in. I’m not any of these, but here’s my advice (based on absolutely nothing more than my own opinion)…throw on some Jimmy Buffett or The Boat Drunks. Wow! How’s that for earth-shattering advice? Okay, I’ll take it one step further. Don’t just throw it in and expect to feel better, but actually read and listen to the lyrics.

For me, it’s a huge help. For you, maybe it’s not Buffett or The Boat Drunks. So let’s at least agree on MUSIC. Throw some in…and listen.

Here’s a little Boat Drunks:

“You’re such a silly man everything you try to plan, plan, plan
Just sit back for awhile take some time to smile some things you weren’t meant to understand
Forget your self control too much sanity just takes its toll
Let the carnival begin cast your fears into the wind
Wind it up and let it go!

Paralysis by analysis is a modern man’s disease it can rob you of your life and steal you blind
We never really know how many choices that we lose when we take too long in making up our mind
That big old mynah bird he never worries ’bout a thing he just sits up in his tree all day and sings
When dwelling on the future it is good to bear in mind
Life’s what happens while you’re planning for other things

Life is a series of random events
And you know any course can go wrong
We spend all our lives seeking out happiness
Before we find it was there all along “

Worth repeating: “We spend all our lives seeking out happiness, Before we find it was there all along.”
