Snoloha Snuggies?

Friday, January 30th, 2009

When I posted this question on Twitter and Facebook the other day, “Time for a new Snoloha promo…got any ideas?”, I wasn’t sure what kind of response I’d get. I should have, however, expected some of the wise cracks. Joe the Designer, seems to think he’s a funny guy.

Here is a partial list of his ideas:
snuggie.jpg
“SnoLoha Snuggie?
SnoLoha MightyPutty?
SnoLoha Iron Gym Pull Up Bar?
SnoLoha PediPaws?
SnoLoha Mighty Mendit?”

I think I’m leaning toward the PediPaws. Though the Snuggie is the coolest invention ever, it would compete with the lounge pants that I’m launching.

But onto the real promo….So here’s the deal: Buy any regular priced T-Shirt (short sleeve or long), Hoodie or Lil’ Ones, and you will get a FREE Snoloha piece of clothing with your order. And, it’ll be a surprise! I’ll send you (the same size unless you let me know otherwise in the comments field during checkout) one of the 50% products that I’m getting really tired of looking at. There’s a selection of t’s, long sleeves and hoodies that I’ll be pulling from.

That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!

Callin’ in Gone

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

You hear it no matter where you look. It’s presence is undeniable. The economic crisis that we are currently in is affecting everyone in one way or another. Even if you’re fortunate enough to still have a job or customers, chances are you know someone not as lucky. I had a reminder of that today after talking with a good friend that I hadn’t heard from in sometime. To him, this economic tsunami is all too real and not just something Anderson Cooper is talking about every night.

Here’s a potential spin, and yes I realize anything is easier said than done, but damn it, aren’t you tired of hearing all the bad news? Is there no optimism left? Have the 24/7 news media completely brainwashed us (nothing personal, Anderson)? And no, this spin isn’t “escapism” driven (not that there’s anything wrong with that. In fact the Snoloha brand is pretty much based upon escapism). This spin is just a genuine feeling.

I’m not one to opine via this blog, but this Snoloha brand that we’re building not only is an escape from the daily grind of every day life, but a connection to things that simply make us feel good…so I thought it was appropriate to do so.

Whether you have your job or not, think back to all those days you wanted to leave it anyway. Maybe to start that business you’ve been slowly working on in the basement. Maybe you want to go back to school. Maybe it’s time to switch industries completely. Think back to those days. I do. Then I’m reminded of one of my favorite songs from The Boat Drunks.

This is how I had posted it back in March of 2007:

The Boat Drunks

This particular song I enjoy because it is a good reminder of a former life that I do not miss. It also helps in realizing that this roller-coaster ride of starting and owning a small business is much more fun, adventurous, challenging, inspiring, and creatively freer than being stuck in a situation where you feel trapped, creatively drained, and bored to the point where you’re “callin’ in gone”.

“Callin In Gone”

“Dead stuck in traffic, you know I’m headed for a job I hate
Ain’t nothing movin but the hands on my watch
Full throttle hurry up and wait
I’m sick of the retrace, I can’t take one more day
My life is too short to live it this way
I’m dialin the office put the bossman on
I’m not callin in sick I’m callin in gone

I’m callin in gone full fledged adios
I’m leavin this cubicle for a spot on the coast
Gonna find me a beach that’s where I belong
I’m not callin in sick I’m callin in gone

What the hell are you doin I keep asking myself
Only I know the answer there’s nobody else
Like a rat on the wheel that’s how I compare
I’m running all day and getting nowhere
So enough is enough I’m saying so long
I’m not callin in sick I’m callin in gone

No jacket and tie, no morning commute
I’m waving goodbye a one finger salute
Going down to the ocean, gonna lay in the sun
The only boss I’ll hear is singing Born to Run
I’ve got plenty of room, why don’t you come along
We won’t be callin in sick, we’re callin in gone”

What a great line, ” The only boss I’ll hear is singing Born to Run”.

Snapshots & Scenery

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

For those that have been following Snoloha for sometime, you’re probably already familiar with the monthly Snapshots & Scenery contest. And if you’re not familiar, it’s quite simple…every month I choose a winning photo and send out free Snoloha gear. The photo does not have to include Snoloha gear, rather a reflection of your Snoloha lifestyle. You can see past winners here, or watch the slide show below.

I’ve also moved the photo gallery to the new Snoloha Community. It is much easier to upload, manage and share photos now.

So, all you have to do is visit the Community, create a profile and start uploading photos! And if you already have a profile, upload some more photos!

Winter Luau Fun

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Here in the northern latitudes, as much as we enjoy the snow and all the winter related activities, at some point we feel a little island fever coming on. For some that means a trip to the lower lats and some fun in the sun. For others, well it’s making the most of a cold Saturday evening in January.

A big thanks to Scott’s Harbor Grill for hosting The Grand Traverse Yacht Club’s “Snoloha Winter Luau”. It was freezing outside, but inside we enjoyed a steel drum band, some excellent island-inspired food, rum punch, past boat stories and plans to write new ones.

We managed to give away some Snoloha swag and meet some really fun folks that know how to have a really good time. The party was scheduled to kickoff at 6:00 and they were lined up out the door minutes before. We must have packed a couple hundred island crazed northerners into this marina side restaurant.

There’s a Snoloha Definition T on the dance floor…

At some point a giant Big Bird looking chicken showed up. It was wearing a name tag that said, “Hello, my name is Chicken”. And yes, if you look closely that is a chicken wing in the chicken’s beak. That chicken had a twisted sense of humor.

Do NOT Buy These!

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Unless you don’t mind feeling extremely comfy and relaxed…and run the risk of “motivational loss”.

Every new product that I launch , I get excited about. However, for some reason I am so anxious to launch these lounge pants. When UPS drops off a sample box, it’s like Christmas morning. Scissors in hand, I run across the room to cut through the packing tape separating me from the new gear inside a beat up cardboard treasure chest. Most of the time I’m quite satisfied with what I find. Of course there have been a few pieces that have yielded disappointment…sort of like opening those new socks or that really sweet Christmas tie.

Anyway, when UPS dropped of the box this week, my anticipation was higher than normal. And I was very nervous as to what I would find. What if the quality was not what I had expected? What if they were not as comfy as I had hoped?

I was extremely happy with what I found. A super soft and comfortable lounge pant for guys and for gals (yes, the gals are a “ladies cut” and not simply the guys version).

So, now it’s time to order inventory and make available on the site the Snoloha Slacker Friendly Lounge Pants.

If you’d like to take advantage of pre-ordering, then here’s the deal…order now for $25.00. The regular price will be $35.00.

Just shoot me an email (rod (at) snoloha.com), or visit the contact page, and let me know what you’d like – color, size, quantity, guys or gals (or both). You won’t have to pay until they come in and it’s time to ship. See image below for color and sizes available.

Polar Plungin’

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

This video was uploaded to the Snoloha Community by JB’s Boy. According to his profile, “my occupation is slacker, my vocation is nursing!”. I like the clarification between the two.

So many things he could have used after that plunge…Snoloha hoodie, Snoloha lounge pants, Snoloha coffee, shot of whiskey.

Slacker-Friendly Lounge Pants

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Since Snoloha was voted Most Slacker-Friendly business in 2007 & 2008, it seemed only fitting to name the new Snoloha lounge wear after this prestigious award…is it prestigious? Can something known for being “slacker-friendly” really be prestigious? Sure, why not!

So…Snoloha Slacker-Friendly Lounge Wear for guys and gals is coming to the site real soon, unless I decide to slack off and get lost in the snow or finally escape to the ski hill instead. Nah…I’m excited to have an excuse to wear lounge pants ALL day. Stay tuned as I’ll have more details in the days ahead.

So, now it’s time to plan color schemes, design and launch date. Stay tuned as I’ll be sure to post updates as to when the new product(s) will be available.

Thanks for all the feedback. Those that voted for Lounge Pants…no pressure to buy a pair!

Those that voted for Flip Flops, I’m working on it!

New Snoloha Wallpaper

chairlift_blog_thumb.jpg
It’s been a while since a new Snoloha wallpaper has been unveiled…so here we go.

The Palm Tree Chair Lift design is now available for your desktop viewing pleasure. Joe the Designer, and not Joe the Plummer, really nailed it with this design, which has become one of my favorites.

Visit the Snoloha Wallpaper page to grab this image, or a handful of others that are available.

The Cape

Friday, January 16th, 2009

“The Cape”, Jerry Jeff Walker.

Great song. Seemed fitting for Feel Good Friday (see post below).

Don’t over think it. Don’t worry so much about it. Think back to your childhood and carry that throughout life, “Gotta’ spread your arms and hold your breath. And always trust your cape”

“Well he’s eight years old he’s got a flour sack cape tied all around his neck
He’s climbing up on top the garage figurin’ what the heck
He screws his courage up so darn tight, that the whole thing come unwound
He got a runnin’ start and bless his heart, he headed for the ground

Chorus
‘Cause he’s one of those who knows his life
Is just a leap of faith
Gotta’ spread your arms and hold your breath
And always trust your cape

Well he’s all grown up, he’s got a flour sack cape, tied all around his dream
He’s full of piss and vinegar, ah, he’s bustin’ at the seams
He licks his finger and checks the wind, it’s gonna be do or die
He wasn’t scared of nothin’, boys, he was pretty sure he could fly

Chorus

Now he’s old and grey with a flour sack cape, tied all around his head
And he’s still jumpin’ off the garage and will be til he’s dead
All these years the people said the fool was actin’ like a kid
And since he didn’t know he couldn’t fly, well of course he did”
