Join the Community

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

I’ve been working on an online Snoloha Community. The goal here is to connect Snoloha customers, fans and like minded folks that enjoy life somewhere between the islands and arctic.

So go ahead and create a profile. Share your photos. Upload your favorite songs. Start blogging. Start a discussion. Make new friends.

Whatever you feel reflects and represents your “somewhere”…whether that’s a ski hill or a beach, a boat or hiking trail, a favorite song or a favorite quote, anything that helps you escape from the grind of, and carry a vacation mentality through, everyday life.

This brand belongs to all of you that have a connection to it. As it continues to grow, the product will diversify outside of clothing. In fact, there will be a new product on the site yet this week that is not a piece of clothing, but definitely reflects the lifestyle.

As the Community grows, it will allow all of us to exchange and share ideas and thoughts on what’s best for the brand. The feedback and the participation is important to Snoloha’s evolution.

Thanks for all the support.

Movember

Monday, October 27th, 2008

My good buddy and Snoloha’s graphic designer, Joe Gabry, is going to be an active participant in the movement that is changing the face of men’s health, and he needs some help. Here is the fun part - this November Joe has decided to get hairy and grow a moustache for MOvember.

What the hell is MOvember? Read on –

This whole thing is a fundraiser to raise awareness of and raise money to fight prostate cancer and Joe’s teams needs help. They are called The MOtown MOfia and are four guys strong, committed to growing the most bad-ass mustaches that each has ever grown.

MOvember in a nutshell- The team starts on MOvember 1st completely clean shaven. They have 30 days to grow the most grizzly, luxurious and flowing upper lip mane that they can. They spend the month looking completely ridiculous, hopefully drawing attention to themselves and raising awareness and money for prostate cancer research.

If you want to learn way more about MOvember, direct yourself to www.movember.com and have a look.

They will end the month with a sweet, sweet party at the Royal Oak Brewery in Downtown Royal Oak. Important details about the party will be posted on Joe’s MOspace page. They will be raffling off some sweet prizes that their corporate sponsors (like SnoLoha) have donated. All the money that they raise will go directly to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and is tax deductible. You are all invited, even if you don’t donate anything at all.

Here is what you need to do –
Direct your favorite web browser to http://us.movember.com/mospace/1502851
Check out the website and then make a donation. Online donations are completely secure.
OR, you can write a check payable to the ‘Prostate Cancer Foundation’, referencing my Registration Number 1502851 and mailing it to:

“On the stump”

Friday, October 24th, 2008

I know. Everyone is consumed with the Presidential election and the “he-said, she said, they spent how much on clothing”, campaign that is going on. I, for one, feel fortunate that we have Saturday Night Live to make light of all this.

Another campaign that you can participate in that doesn’t get the 24/7 news coverage is Snoloha for Most Slacker-Friendly business.

Voting goes through the end of October. And you are allowed to vote once per day. Much like they do in a Presidential election…oh wait, I think that was an SNL skit, or was it?

That’s about as political as you’ll hear from the Snoloha camp. Snoloha believes in “Escapism”. And in today’s world, that’s not a bad thing. Turn off the news, forget about the economy, the campaign and all the other bummer headlines…even if it’s just for one day. Go outside. Rake leaves. Go for a hike. Take a bike ride. Carve a pumpkin. Wrestle with the kids. Brew a hot pot of coffee. Have a beer (or two). Smile. Laugh.

Take a big ole deep breath and realize all the good things that you are surrounded with.

Thanks for the votes and the support.

A Little Update

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Screen Print Dave will be turning out the new Snoloha gear as early as next week. Snoloha fleece (men’s & women’s) is at the embroiderer, and I had a great meeting yesterday for a new product that is a perfect reflection of the Snoloha lifestyle…but it isn’t clothing. I’m hoping to have it on the website in just another week or two.

Recently, I received a package that contained one of the very first Snoloha printed shirts from Spain. Just last week, I spoke with my licensee in Spain. They are continuing to grow and spread the Snoloha brand in southern Spain, and they have already begun focusing their efforts outside of Spain and have been in contact with reps to grow Snoloha in Switzerland, Germany and Austria.

That’s it for now. Stand by as the website will reflect all the new products once they are in stock.

Snoloha Moments

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Snoloha is now in its second year. It seems like it’s been longer, but when I look at a calendar, it’s obvious that the brand is still a baby. It’s obvious when I meet people who have yet been exposed to the brand, and the ensuing conversation about “what Snoloha is.”

“A lifestyle somewhere between the islands and the arctic.”

This past weekend was a great example of what Snoloha is.

Saturday morning I packed up the backpack and cooler and peddled down to the Bay Breeze Marina to throw off the dock lines and set sail for a couple of hours. It was an amazing October day. A cool breeze, mostly sunny and the shoreline on West Grand Traverse Bay was littered with the reds and oranges of autumn change. Up in the distance, atop one of the many hills that protect the Bay you could see the radio tower that we’ve hiked up to so many times. It seemed so far away from that 30′ Catalina we were sailing on. After we returned to the dock, it was back on the bike and over to a friends house for a full day of college football. Not a bad Saturday.

Sunday morning, after a couple cups of hot coffee while watching the leaves fall like snow throughout the yard, it was off to the Old State Hospital grounds for a hike with the dogs. Nature’s floor was covered with leaves, and there was still a fair amount of green surrounding us that had yet to fall prey to the changing seasons. We weaved our way up the trails and found ourselves walking near the radio tower. As I turned and looked out over the bay, it seemed so far away from that perspective aboard “Pisces” that we had been sailing on the previous day. Not a bad Sunday.

These are examples of the Snoloha lifestyle. It is celebrating and enjoying all the seasons that Mother Nature throws at us.

The unfortunate thing about days like these, is that I get so caught up in the moments, that I fail to pull out the camera and capture it digitally.

To give you an idea of what it looks like from atop that hill, here’s a nice shot from the Traverse City CVB.

Good Reading

My good buddy Marc, from Manitou Boatworks (who also dragged me out sailing last night…though I really wasn’t kickin’ and screamin’ too much) send me this link.

Those that visit the Snoloha Barefoot & Exposed Blog know that I’m a bit of a Kenny Chesney fan. Caribbean Travel Magazine has an excellent interview with Chesney that you can read here.

Anyone who has had the fortune of island hoppin’ in the Caribbean, especially the U.S. & British Virgin Islands can identify. Heck, anyone who enjoys time on the water and on their boat can identify.

This is the sort of music, lifestyle and escapism that is reminiscent of what the Snoloha brand stands for and reflects.

“Everybody’s busy and has things going on in their life, some they can control and some they can’t. Everybody needs to let go, exhale, have times with themselves and times with people - and I’ve done all that on my boat. Not everybody can experience that. If I can bring that to people’s lives, I think that’s a good thing.”

Give it a read.

Trop Rock Time

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

With all the good economic news (that should be read with a heavy hint of sarcasm), political coverage, the University of Michigan’s rough start to the season and the sun slipping away a bit earlier day-by-day, it’s a perfect time to escape with some Trop Rock music.

JimmyPirate from the TropiCast Radio Network has a new episode available for your listening pleasure. G’ahead…forget about the stock market and the bailout for a while. Pretend you’re an AIG exec on your way to a posh resort on the ocean.

OR, kick off your shoes, plop your feet on the desk, close your eyes and escape

Hey Slackers, Keep on Vot’n!

Thanks for the votes!

“Where the smiles have been.”

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

My buddy Seattle Dave sent me this:

“Wrinkles only go where the smiles have been.” –Jimmy Buffett

How true, baby, how true!! Don’t let the furrowed brows of all the “crisis” we are peppered with leave their mark. I want those laugh lines, man!! I want my kids to have the smiling eyes of a fun life, filled with stuff that matters. Beach days and snow days and days spent with the people they love. Focus on the good things. Emphasize things that make us feel good! No matter how “bad” everything is, much, much more good happens every day.

This good stuff is Snoloha.

It is the perfect anecdote for all the bad news. It is the pure joys that happen all the time every single day. So recognize them! Appreciate them! Celebrate them! These fun, silly, unspoken little moments in life are what matters. From eating potato salad at your picnic table, watching kids soccer games, walking the dog, riding bikes and waves and chairlifts. Life is filled with reasons to be happy and to smile. So all the bad news can wait while you go have a beer on the deck and watch the late summer sun ride away.

It’s a good day.

Back to Bidness

We’re finally settlin’ in to our new digs. And other than wanting to watch Tina Fey over and over again as Sarah Palin, I’m finally focusing and gettin’ back to bidness.

New SnoLoha gear has finally been ordered…including the new and improved SnoFlake Palm Tree hoodie (these are sweet!), the Flatbed, Palm Tree Chair Lift, and Goggles (as seen here).

I’m looking forward to getting these on the site. I think you’ll dig ‘em.

In the meantime, remember to keep voting Snoloha for Most Slacker-Friendly company. Voting goes thru October, and you can vote once per day.

I appreciate all the support.
