As with most Buffett songs, there’s always a favorite line – “And wrinkles only go where the smiles have been.”

I’ve written several times about one of my favorite bands, The Boat Drunks. Well, one of their members, Mike Miller, has recently departed the band to do something many of us will only ever dream about, he’s going sailing! Heading through the Eastern Great Lakes, down the ICW and to the Bahamas for starters. “Then”, he says, “…we’ll see.”

He was also the guy who penned “Hollow Man”, on the disc “Wahine Man”. Not only did he write a brilliant song, but now he’ll be living it.

This could be a very long post…but I’ll do my best to keep it short and sweet.

I’ve had the opportunity recently to connect with an old friend and a fellow entrepreneur (two different people, by the way). And each visit was unique, yet similar.

As a result of both, I’ve revisited initial goals and been reminded of things I enjoy. Sound confusing? Well, it’s not really. Really, it’s not.

Snoloha, the concept and the brand, is focused. I have to admit, that I started traveling down a path that would have led to trying to please a mass market. Not only can I NOT do that, but I NEVER intended to do that. I’ve revisited early business plans, blog posts, notes, and journal entries to remind myself of what it is that makes Snoloha different. And I feel good, really good, with the direction of this brand.

Snoloha, the lifestyle, encompasses many things. One of which is longboarding (think cross between snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding). I have to admit, it has been quite sometime since I hopped on the old longboard and that it’s become more of a “decoration piece” than anything else. So…I dusted off the deck and have been cruising around town enjoying the scenery and getting a nice workout. And it feels good, really good, to have the ole longboard in action again.

Oh, and if you’ve heard of Donavon Frankenreiter before, then you already know…but if not, give him a listen, I think you’ll dig it. Here’s a video…and if you’re employer has blocked YouTube…well, that sucks.

There’s been a lot of “strategizing”, “planning”, “organizing” and other action-oriented buzz words ending in “ing”, happening with Snoloha lately.

It’s been about 2 years since I dedicated myself, and committed full-time to launching this company. This winter will mark 2 years since the brand has actually been available on the market.

It’s still a baby…and still growing and learning.

Some exciting things will be happening in the coming weeks and months. We will be tackling a complete makeover of the website. This will be a pretty intense project that will hopefully begin this fall with a late winter launch. The product line will also be evolving quite nicely as we’ll be using new colors, fabrics and styles. Designs reflecting the Snoloha concept will continue to be introduced. A sales rep force is slowly being assembled, which will help grow the brand through retailers across the country. Spain is printing their first run of gear. Their sales reps will now have samples and be able to go out and begin introducing Snoloha throughout Spain and Europe.

I turned on The Today Show this Monday morning to start a new week. Here’s the top stories – U.S. brewer Anheuser-Busch Inc accepts a sweetened $52 billion takeover bid from Belgium-based InBev, Gas hits a high average of $4.11 per gallon, The Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department announced steps to brace slumping mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, 9 Americans killed in attack in Afghanistan. …and those are just the ones that I can remember.

I’m sure there are plenty of folks out there who will not agree with the title of this post, “Escapism is a good thing”.

But with the constant coverage and happening of bad news, I say “why not?” Why not escape? Even if it’s for a few moments of forgetting about what’s going on in the world. If it’ll help make the day brighter, or your attitude more positive, then I think that’s a good thing.

With the 24/7 news coverage these days, all we hear is all the bad things that are happening in the world. So take a moment to escape, It’s easier to do that you may think.

Close your eyes, and think about that last vacation (or the one coming up). Throw on some Jimmy Buffett and listen to the lyrics. Go to the store specifically to buy your favorite candy bar (and nothing else). Take a look at a photo that instantly takes you back to where you were at the time…and stay in that moment for a few minutes. Refill your coffee cup, but this time take the time to smell the aroma and enjoy the taste (versus just using it as a wake-me-up), or crack a cold one after a long day at work. Smile.
