The Boat Drunks

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

The Boat DrunksThese guys are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands to listen to during the day. Radio Margaritaville plays them quite a bit. Add to it a couple days of 60 degree weather, and it really gets you in the mood.

This particular song I enjoy because it is a good reminder of a former life that I do not miss. It also helps in realizing that this roller-coaster ride of starting and owning a small business is much more fun, adventurous, challenging, inspiring, and creatively freer than being stuck in a situation where you feel trapped, creativley drained, and bored to the point where you’re “callin’ in gone”.

“Callin In Gone”

“Dead stuck in traffic, you know I’m headed for a job I hate
Ain’t nothing movin but the hands on my watch
Full throttle hurry up and wait
I’m sick of the retrace, I can’t take one more day
My life is too short to live it this way
I’m dialin the office put the bossman on
I’m not callin in sick I’m callin in gone

I’m callin in gone full fledged adios
I’m leavin this cubicle for a spot on the coast
Gonna find me a beach that’s where I belong
I’m not callin in sick I’m callin in gone

What the hell are you doin I keep asking myself
Only I know the answer there’s nobody else
Like a rat on the wheel that’s how I compare
I’m running all day and getting nowhere
So enough is enough I’m saying so long
I’m not callin in sick I’m callin in gone

No jacket and tie, no morning commute
I’m waving goodbye a one finger salute
Going down to the ocean, gonna lay in the sun
The only boss I’ll hear is singing Born to Run
I’ve got plenty of room, why don’t you come along
We won’t be callin in sick, we’re callin in gone”

What a great line, ” The only boss I’ll hear is singing Born to Run”.

Random Quote / Lyrics

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

Son of a Son of a Sailor
“Cowboy in the Jungle”, from the 1978 album Son of a Son of a Sailor.

“With no plans for the future
He still seems in control
From a bronco ride to a ten foot tide
He just had to learn to roll.

Roll with the punches
Play all of his hunches
Made the best of whatever came his way
What he lacked in ambition
He made up with intuition
Plowing straight ahead come what may.

Steel band in the distance
And their music floats across the bay
While American women in muumuus
Talk about all the things they did today
And their husbands quack about fishing
As they slug those rum drinks down
Discussing who caught what
and who sat on his butt
But it’s the only show in town.

They’re tryin’ to drink all the punches
They all may lose their lunches
Tryin’ to cram lost years into five or six says
Seems that blind ambition erased their intuition
Plowin’ straight ahead come what may.”

Snoloha Analytics

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

Snoloha GeoMapThought I’d share some of the Google Analytics for Snoloha.com. This is a Geo Map overlay which represents the volume of visitors coming from locations around the world. Of course the majority is from the United States - from Hawaii and Alaska to Florida and New England.

The rest of the map (not pictured of course) shows visits from China and Australia to the Middle East and Europe.

The Snoloha Lifestyle is global. Who knows, maybe one day the Snoloha brand will be as well. But for now, we are still learning to walk before we attempt to run.

Snoloha Sighting

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

Over the weekend we decided to head to Red Mesa Grill to experience their Caribbean flavored specials, specifically we were looking forward to some conch fritters.  They are only offering the Caribbean inspired meals for a limited time, and since we can’t find another restaurant in town that serves up conch fritters, we had to take advantage.  Well, with the snow falling outside and the Latin American themed decor around us, plus the Caribbean specials on the menu, we were definitely having a Snoloha type of evening.

While enjoying our entrees, we finally experienced the first Snoloha sighting on a complete stranger.  This gentleman was wearing the long sleeve SnoPalm T.

I gotta admit, it felt pretty cool to not only see a Snoloha customer “out-and-about” wearing his gear, but it was fitting given the atmosphere we were in.

What’s Happening

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Thought I’d take an opportunity to let everyone know what’s going on “behind the scenes” here at Snoloha.

  • The online store will be getting a “face lift” fairly soon (depending on weather). The face lift will consist of all new photos of the products - both men’s and women’s. And this time the men’s products will be featured using a model, unlike the current photos.
  • There are several new items in the works that will also be on the site in the coming weeks. Included are the new Snoloha visors.
  • We are continuing to talk with potential retailers to carry the Snoloha line. Of course as retailers are added, we will update the retailers link and inform you via the Barefoot & Exposed blog.
  • The homepage will also be taking on a slightly different look. It’s not a major change, but it will be pretty darn cool once it’s finished.
  • The next Snaphots & Scenery winner will be chosen in just a couple weeks. So if you haven’t done so yet, create an account and upload your photos!

There is much more in the works, but that’s enough for now.
