The Boat Drunks

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

The Boat DrunksI hear these guys quite a bit when listening to Radio Margaritaville on Sirius.

“I wanna be where there’s coconut trees and the air is salty sweet
Surrounded by the water and the temperature is hotter than a summertime St. Maarten beach
I don’t wanna pillage I don’t wanna plunder I just wanna spend all day in the sun
With a Cuban cigar, my four-stringed guitar and a case of Puerto Rican rum
I wish I was a pirate on the Caribbean smokin on my boat and Havaña daydreamin’
Drinkin’ margaritas and Jimmy’s there singin’ I wish I was a pirate on the Caribbean.”

Thanks to Lance Sahady for taking time out during his snowboard trip and for his great modeling job. Hey Lance, maybe you should consider a career change?!

By the way, Lance is sporting the SnoFlake Palm Hoodie in indigo blue.

The Starbucks Experience
Just started reading this so I can’t give it a thumbs up or down yet.  But early on it seems like a good read.

I wanted to share Principle 2:

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”

Lessons Learned

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

While visiting AfterBlue Sailaway, and learning more about Maciek, I wanted to share this:

“What would you do if you only had 6 months to live? Well, nobody is hurting here, you might say, but sometimes you feel like used car you owned long time ago. It still runs, but boy, does it leak oil badly. Questions of escape rattle in your brain before you drown them in the noise of the bar or shoot them dead with your TV remote.

I was cubicle creature for so long that I forgot what life could be like outside of these cages of nine to five. But there is life out there. Somewhere beyond car payments there is an adventure waiting and there are foreign places to be discovered. There are people who made the brake, that you wouldn’t meet any other way. There are strange islands, mysterious underwater and that woosh of the water sliced by the bow of the boat. No cell phones, no pagers, no e-mail and no daytimer. You can even leave your in-laws behind.

Discover and follow your dreams. You shouldn’t have to wait till you’re in your fifties, high blood pressure and a wad of money to go for it, right?”

Gets you thinking, doesn’t it?

Thanks Maciek~

Snoloha & Policies

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

This post was inspired during one of those “aha” moments while watching The Daily Show last night. It was not inspired due to an unhappy customer. We have not had one of those, yet! We are trying to avoid that.

Yes, we have a return policy. And yes, we know what a big pain-in-the-butt policies can be, escpecially return policies. We hate policies. In fact, the main reason we have a policy established had to do with setting up an online business in the first place, most payment processing companies require it.

For that reason, the return policy will remain on the site. Now, if you are happy with the return policy, great, then No Worries.

But here’s the deal - If you have any questions, concerns, or issues with your Snoloha purchase, simply email us or give us a ring so we can keep you happy as a customer. It doesn’t make sense to alienate customers due to some stupid policy.

Our goal is to keep you happy. Policies usually get in the way of that. They often lead to disagreements and unhappy customers. We’ve all been victims of some terrible company policy. You know the story - The unhappy employee says there is nothing they can do, that “it’s our policy”. You ask for the manager. You go ’round and ’round, only to hear the same excuse, “I’m sorry, but it’s our policy”. So you leave, unhappy.

We really don’t want those types of conversations with our customers. So let’s avoid them altogether. Let us know if you have any issues so we can all continue being happy!

We look forward to hearing from you. And thank you for your interest in Snoloha!

I don’t know much about this band. They are called Reckless Kelly. I heard this song while listening to Pandora, which is a great way to discover new music, by the way.

The name of the song is “Snowfall”, and it fits the Snoloha lifestyle nicely.

“One hundred and ten don’t mean nothin’ to me
I’ve seen forty below when the rivers freeze
But the ground here’s bare
And the skies are clear
I’m packing my gear and I’m outta here

When the snow falls down
I’ll be on my way
To a western town
When winter rolls around
I’ll be half way home
To a mountain town
Where the snow falls down

I’m heading up north
For some peace of mind
Leaving my baby and my worries behind
I’m gonna find my freedom
Brother you should too

And if you don’t do it now
You’ll be one year older when you do

Finally, there is Sno in Loha

Winter Hiking in Traverse City

Winter the way it’s suppose to be in northern Michigan. Pictured above is a local hiking area near the historic Traverse City State Hospital.

These are the kind of days that exemplify the Snoloha lifestyle. While out hiking with the dog, we came across several cross-country skiers, snowshoers, and fellow hikers with their dogs.

The snow fell gently the entire time we were out there. There were two men setting up candle holders made of ice. They informed me of a lighted snowshoe walk later in the evening.

Everyone we encountered talked about the beautiful weather. The dogs all exchanged sniffs. The sun made a few appearances. The air was crisp. And life was good.

And come spring and summer, we will explore these same trails and probably encounter the same folks enjoying another beautiful day.

Snoloha life at its best.
