“Human beings were not meant to sit in little cubicles staring at computer screens all day, filling out useless forms and listening to eight different bosses drone on about mission statements.”

Don't Stop The CarnivalIf you’re looking for a good book to read this winter (or anytime for that matter), pick up a copy of Herman Wouk’s “Don’t Stop The Carnival“.

And while you’re at it, pick up a copy of Jimmy Buffett’s CD, with the same title, “Don’t Stop The Carnival” (which was also performed as a musical).  It takes you on a musical ride through the trials and tribulations of Norman Paperman’s middle-aged crisis in the Caribbean.

To quote Buffett from the first track of the disc, “The Legend of Norman Paperman/Kinja”:

“Have you ever dreamed of escaping from your dull existence to a new life on a tropical island? Our story is about a man who did it – a real person, whose true adventure has become a legend here in the Caribbean. Welcome one and all to THE LEGEND OF NORMAN PAPERMAN.”

Where’s the Sno in Loha?

For any of you reading this in the Great Lakes region, it is no surprise that it’s been a mild winter, to say the least.  It is December and it is not very white outside.  During my holiday travels south on I-75, I passed by a golf course that was as green as a golf course could be.  Of course it may have looked so green in contrast to the rest of the surroundings being that dull, depressing winter brown color.  I was surprised that I didn’t see anyone taking advantage of the warm temperatures and getting in a round just so they could say they golfed on Christmas Eve.

Anyway, I thought it was important to mention that although Mother Nature has not delivered the kind of snowfall we are all use to, that doesn’t mean the ski hills are closed.  Yes, they are open.  Yes, they do have snow. Okay, so it may not be the best snow conditions, but hey, it’s better than nothing, right?  If you don’t believe me, take a look for yourself via Boyne’s live web cams.

Chronicles & Commentaries

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

Chronicles & Commentaries is set to launch just after the New Year. We have a handful of entries to publish but would love to see a few more before this part of the site goes live. So if you, or someone you know, has any travel/vacation/adventure writings, notes, poems, stories, or other words that you’d like to share, just email us.

These entries can be of anything – from a sailing trip in the islands to a day on the slopes at the local ski hill – from kayaking a favorite river to catching some morning waves. Anything that takes us somewhere else for a few moments.

Also, we are generating more traffic and users to the Snapshots & Scenery Photo gallery.  So if you haven’t done so yet, register as a user and upload some photos.  We will be choosing the first winner in January.  So if you want a chance to win Snoloha gear, visit Snapshots & Scenery.  For those of you who have been following the progress of the site, this will sound like a broken record – there are a couple of layout issues to fix in the photo gallery, but we are working on other elements of the site before we tackle them, so thanks for your patience!

More Snoloha Christmas Music

SnoTiki

Sticking with the “Snoloha Style Christmas Music” I thought it appropriate to share this classic-

“Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say
On a bright Hawaiian Christmas Day
That’s the island greeting that we send to you
From the land where palm trees sway

Here we know that Xmas will be green and bright
Sun will shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii’s way
To say Merry Christmas to you.”

What’s Happening…

A random quote 2 days ago and no post yesterday…so what’s going on?

It has been a busy couple days here at Snoloha.  We are working on a large retail order that the screenprinter is finishing up and we also have new products available to get on the website.

New products include a women’s longsleeve, a men’s longsleeve, a men’s t-shirt, and 6 different beanie hats.  Now we need to get photos taken and then get them “web ready”.  We are hoping to have all the new products on the site by the end of the week.

Also, we will be “ripping & stitching” clothing labels over the next month.  Ripping & stitiching meaning we are removing the current labels from all the clothing (starting with the men’s) and replacing them with custom ordered Snoloha labels.

Finally, we are working on our retail POP (point-of-purchase) materials, printing retail catalogs, and of course continuing to work on the website (which still has several elements not yet finished).

So there you have it, a closer look at what’s happening behind the scenes.

Santa’s Run Off To The Caribbean

Monday, December 18th, 2006

Jimmy Buffett Christmas IslandOf course a Snoloha Christmas wouldn’t be complete without Jimmy Buffett’s Christmas Island.

“Ho ho ho and a bottle of rum
Santa’s run off to the caribbean
Marimbas, calimbas, he’s playing steel drums
Ho ho ho and a bottle of rum

Ho ho ho and a bottle of rum
Santa’s run off to the caribbean
A week in the tropics and he’ll be all right
Sporting a tan as he rides out of sight

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night”

Snoloha Style Christmas Music

Kenny Chesney_XmasA little Snoloha style Christmas music from Kenny Chesney, “All I Want For Christmas Is A Real Good Tan.”

“All I want for Christmas is a real good tan,
take me to the Islands put my feet in the sand,
rockin’ to and fro with the rhythm of the ocean,
singin’ Silent Night with the palm trees ablowin’..

Well everybody’s praying for a Christmas so white,
come to think about it, that’d be alright,
as long as it’s sand and not snow on the ground,
and everyday our skin gets a little more brown”
